Solar water heater-keeps our old ones happy.

Our geriatric population is consuming lot of energy to make themselves comfortable by taking bath in hot water. Hot water bath after an oil massage relieves there joint stiffness, increases blood circulation and give them a pleasant feeling. The cost of energy is mounting high, particularly in urban areas where people have to depend on LPG or electricity. In rural area due to availability of biomass and wood, it is still not a major problem.
Solar energy is a promising energy source. It is environment friendly. Only draw back is the cost effectiveness. Research should be directed to make these gadgets common man friendly. It should fit to their pocket. Solar water heater really help to save the precious energy which uses sustainable energy.

Gandhiji

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (MK Gandhi) is father of our nation. Tomorrow is his birthday. He fought against British colonialism using non co-operation and non-violence (Ahimsa). I cannot really digest the above said both terms. How with only two ineffective weapons, he defeated the British Empire and lead us to freedom. I bow in front of him for his great contributions.

Recently I got interested in open source operating system (OS), Linux. There are different types of OS which are Linux based. Fedora, red hat, ubuntu, puppy Linux are among them. You need not pay heavily for purchasing these items. Most of them can be downloaded absolutely free. Even they can be burned on a CD or DVD and used as a bootable disc. This work using the random access memory (RAM).
Please try to utilise this resources which helps us to curb monopoly of certain OS like windows.

Horrifying facts

A middle aged lady came to me today with right sided chest pain. She came alone for the consultation. Her medical records showed that she is suffering from HIV. I had a detailed conversation with her regarding how she contracted the diseases.
She was married to a co worker while they were working in a hospital in Mumbai. Now it is 16Th year of marriage. During her second delivery, which was cesarean section she had bleeding and she underwent blood transfusion. Mother and baby were fine after the surgery. This happened in one of the nursing home there. Recently, last year end she had weakness, weight loss, fever and cough which was not responding to usual treatment. Blood examination found that she is HIV positive. Her husband and two children were screened, but luckily all were negative.
In India most of the families affected with HIV are shattered. Most of hospitals where these type of incidence, transfusion of HIV infected blood, has been reported were destroyed by mob violence. But her husband fully supported her and she is currently on treatment. Only her husband, no one else in the family know this grave fact.
This lady was very anxious and had lot of concern about others particularly her in laws knowing the truth. That can have devastating effects. This is the picture of a poor Indian affected by this disease.
Even though rules are stringent, still transfusion of HIV infected blood is occurring. This is of great concern to the human race, as there is no cure for the disease. Please think of it ......

Invite advertisment in your blog. earning?

Advertisment is essential for a succesful business. Our television channels are fertile area for ads now. More and more advertising agencies are now focusing on doing it on world wide web. The usage of electronic mail is increasing, hence people watching online ads are also more. Instead of paying heavily for erecting huge flex boards the advertiser can propagate his ideas through internet in a cost effective manner.
Google adsense is providing easy way to invite ads to your website. Similarly there is google adwords for the advertiser to put his ads. Only thing you have to do is register yourself with google adsense and follow the simple steps in that page. Money you earn depends on viewers of ads in your site. The more your site as well as ads are viewed the more you will become richer. Please don't try to earn more by clicking on the ads in your site by yourself. This unethical.
Try this out today itself.

PET bottles health hazard?

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles are used widely now. Drinking water is stored and dispensed in these bottles. There won't be a meeting or travel with out PET bottles. In India I have noticed people reusing plasic bottles for storing drinking water. I once recieved a mail telling about the danger of reused plastic bottles. Studies have shown dangerous chemicals in high concentration, above the recommended level, in drinking water stored in these bottles. For example, antimony, formaldehyde, etc. People are not aware of the health effects of plastic materials. People of low strata uses these bottles daily for years together with our knowing the harmful effects. Several studies have been published on this regard but there is still no consensus on it. WHO (world health organisation) should come out with the required recommendations and the type of containers that can be used to store drinking water. There should be public awareness programs in this matter directed towards people of poor socioeconomic class.

tudiabetes.com

I got invitation from a group of people touched by diabetes. Most of them are young and suffering from this diaease for many years. They are using insulin pump as therapeutic option. The members include male and female. Type 1 diabetes is common among the group.
They are from developed countries and can afford sophisticated machines and therapies. Please think of poor diabetics hailing from countries like India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Type 1 diabetic cannot afford insulin therapy. Oral therapy is also costly. Most of them depend on government hospitals for there drug supply. The drug availability is not guaranteed all the time. The compliance to drugs also less as they are ignorant about the graveness of the situation.
The money they earn from the site of the above group will be put towards uplift of diabetics and research. These type of efforts should be appreciated and promoted.

Exercise is it promising……..????

Exercise has been found to have several beneficial effects, helping to improve quality of life of a diabetic. Let us see how exercise works. During exercise the blood glucose level decreases, insulin resistance improves, and insulin requirement comes down. Studies have found that reduction of body weight and regular exercise prevents or delays the onset of diabetes.

Exercise program should be decided considering several factors such as age, duration, type of diabetes. Treating physician, dietician, nurse, physiotherapist and the patient should be actively involved in planning. Patients more than 35 years, type 2 diabetic of more than 10 years and type 1 diabetic of more than 15 years and uncontrolled diabetic should be cautious while exercising. Those who are having micro or macro vascular complications of diabetes, like neuropathy, nephropathy, cardiovascular diseases, and retinopathy should exercise under supervision (Diabetes Care 25:S64, 2002).

What types of exercises are good? Aerobic exercises like walking, swimming, cycling, weight training are all recommended. There should be a warm up period of about 5 – 10 minutes followed by stretching and cool down period of 5 – 10 minutes. About 40 – 60 minutes exercise is found to be effective.

Care of feet is of prime importance while exercising. Proper socks and shoes should be used and should be emphasized in persons with peripheral neuropathy in particular. Post exercise careful inspection of feet for blisters and bruises should be practiced. Hydration is also very important. Before, during and after exercise person should drink enough.

General guidelines that may prove helpful in regulating the glycemic response to exercise can be summarized as follows:
Metabolic control before exercise
Avoid exercise if fasting glucose levels are >250 mg/dl and ketosis is present, and use caution if glucose levels are >300 mg/dl and no ketosis is present.
Ingest added carbohydrate if glucose levels are <100>

Hence dear diabetic (young) do exercise regularly but as per proper professional advise.

young and charming....

It is sad to realise that India carry the highest number of diabetic patients . The number of young diabetics are showing an increasing trend. It is predicted that, by 2025, India will harbour more than 60 million diabetic patients and that cardiac diseases would be the leading cause of death. 1 out of 4 individual will be an Indian diabetic in the world, while 3 out of 4 will be from developing countries. Southern states like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu are heavily affected.
There are differences in etiology for diabetes in urban and rural population in India. In rural India, poverty which in turn can lead to low birth weight babies has been found to be an important reason for diabetes, apart from genetic predisposition. They are also opting for more sedentary lifestyle like their urban counterparts. The time of detection is delayed in rural population, as access to medical care facilities are less and their economic background prohibit them from seeking medical help from private practitioners in urban areas.
The urban scenario is still worse. Young children tend to become obese due to various reasons. They are overburdened with home work from school. They play less and are more interested in cartoon networks and computer games. They eat more junk foods while doing these activities. They become fatter day by day and these children are more prone to develop diabetes in their later life early.
The employees who are young are in great mental stress due to job as well as financial reasons. They won't allot time for exercises and are attracted by junk food ads which make them fatty. It has been found that those working in software companies are having higher incidence of diabetes due to above mentioned reasons and their altered sleep habits.
Doctors are not an exemption. Because of highly sedentary life they also succumb to obesity early. They may neglect symptoms and are reluctant to seek proper medical advice.
Hence younger generation should be prepared to accept the reality and take necessary life style modification measures to tackle the menace. We hope that the young and charming of today will take necessary steps to tide over the upcoming disaster.
